The Christmas party
Between New Castle and Edinburgh there was not so much snow, probably due to the proximity of the coastline. We had a hat party on Christmas Eve at Monica’s place. About twenty friends of Monica were there, all wearing hats from classical films. One person wore a white summer hat with a postcard of a white cottage on it, as in "Casablanca"; another wore a black, round, brimmed hat with a black long-sleeved T-shirt, as in "Clockwork Orange"; and I wore a soft hat, as in the French movie "Breathless".
