Robert the Bruce pub
I ordered fish cake but a bar girl insisted fish and chips. I repeated twice, and pointed with my forefinger to the fish cake on the menu but she claimed I said fish and chips! When I went to St. Andrews I had to change in Glasgow for the immediate train for Haymarket. I alighted hastily and told the railway man in a hurry, "I want to go to Leuchars". That was a misunderstanding. He got "Newcastle?" I said "No,Leuchars!" He replied "Newcastle?" again. In the meantime I missed the train. Apparently there are a few impatient listeners in Scotland who often jump to the wrong conclusion. As a consequence, Japanese people must go Newcastle, not Leuchars, and eat fish and chip, not fish cake! |
