The Pride of Spitalfields
The Underground operators continued their strike on Boxing Day so I went to Tate Modern by bus to see the Gauguin exhibition. But it was closed during the Christmas holiday period! So I decided to start a pub-crawl from Spitalfields Market. But every place was closed and all service was stopped except for this small reddish pub. After "The Pride of Spitalfields" pub I went to the White Chapel Gallery. But it, too, was closed. So I had to give up on my plan to go to the Royal Academy to see the "Glasgow Boys" exhibition. I did see this exhibition later and I had known that this art group was one of the two greatest art movements of its time in the UK. The other group was the Pre-Raphaelites. I got acquainted again with Henry and Hornel whose works I saw in Kirkcudbright, Scotland last summer. I was impressed to learn that they stayed in Japan to paint for almost one year about a century ago. |
