Oliver I saw 'Oliver' at the Royal Drury Lane theatre, and I perceived the meaning of the adjective 'Dickensian', which had not been quite so clear to me. In the doom and gloom of winter of London I could easily imagine Dickensian workers in the back streets. There was a sign saying "God is love" projected on to a hanging screen - an ironic comment, I thought, considering their hard life.
