"JAKS Bar"
On the first morning on the Isle of Man, I first went to the tourist information centre and booked accommodation for three nights and bought a three-day bus pass. I couldn't check in at the Devonian Guest House immediately but I was able to leave my luggage and have lunch at "Jaks" which was one of the pubs that the landlord had recommended. It was a reasonable pub, the other one was a posh gastro pub "Sir Norman." I had the local ale, Okell's, and a seafood gratin. Gratin is a popular dish in Japan so it was unusual for me to see it written in English, as I'm used to reading it in the Japanese Katakana alphabet. I thought gratin probably referred to a "grate" in English and this seemed to me to be rather unusual. |
