"St Port Mary #2"
There is only one pub in Port St Mary and they don't serve food. So I bought crab buns and mussels at the fish shop and a can of Stella beer at the Co-op market and enjoyed a picnic on the bench, from where I could overlook the promenade. On the way back to Douglas I saw Bill at the bar adjacent to the harbour bus stop. He said he was happy to have been born on 14/11/41 which reads the same backwards or forwards. He was happy to have worked for many years as a sailor and had visited many ports including Yokohama. I asked him if his family members didn't feel lonely while he was on the ship. He said he had long days off onshore and he could play with his children all day long. I was rude to ask him if he had a ship or a boat. He answered back , "Why don't you have a school, considering your long career as a teacher?" |
