"Masonic Arms"
From The Devonian Guest House in Douglas on the Isle of Man to Kirkcudbright, South West Scotland, I took a taxi, ferry, train, train, train, bus and then bus again. To my annoyance, after a two hour ferry cruise from Douglas Port, I was detained one hour at Heysham Port Station to get the train to Oxenholme in the Lake District, where I was due to change trains for Carlisle, The Border City, and then change for Dumfries in Scotland. I had barely time to change buses at Dalbeattie bus stop. The first bus on which I rode from Dumfries arrived at Dalbeattie bus stop 15 minutes late, and the next bus which I had to take for Kirkcudbright followed immediately in the rear. It was a -touch and go -change. After a half-day travel I checked into Benutium B&B. Eileen, the landlady, showed me around Kirkcudbright town, the restaurants, a short-cut path to the town centre, a laundry, a takeaway shop, and dropped me off at this pub from her white Smart car. When I told the bar lady that that pub had been recommended as the best pub for her age group and generation by the rather elderly Eileen, the bar lady responded "Your generation!!" |
