"The Orangery", Burghley
There were many hall attendants in each room of Burghley House. I accepted advice from one of them and got hand written permission for to sketch from the receptionist. It said, "This gentleman wants to paint nature in the sculpture garden." However, I wanted to paint the building not the nature. So, I painted this picture from the outside table of The Orangery Restaurant. Burghley House is only one of the 18 great houses of England. I felt dismay at the thought of visiting the other 17! So, my way of "conquering" the UK, by visiting as many place as possible, began to seemed little absurd. There are so many cathedrals, castles, and big houses which I have not painted yet.
