"The Fleet pub", Eyemouth
Eyemouth and other coastal towns were struck by the Eyemouth Disaster in 1881. Many fishing fleets, and fishermen were lost. In total 189 men lost their lives. The Fleet is a real local pub, and was packed. I met John Mackay who runs a fishery business and a fish & chips shop in Eyemouth as its headquarters. John himself was the caterer of the wedding party that we came across at the village green of Bamburgh Castle the day before. He invited me to come to his company to paint the sea from the observation terrace the next day.
