There were brightly painted highland cow benches laying around the town. One of them was beside the Murray Fountain, which was installed in October 1894 and commemorates the town's fresh water supply. The Drummond Arms Hotel was behind the fountain. Bonnie Prince Charlie held his last war council here before his final defeat at Culloden by the Duke of Cumberland in1746.
