It is fun to come back to your accommodation in the evening and show the pictures which you painted that day to someone.
Monica always welcomed me and my pictures. I felt very happy to have a chat with her over a glass of wine while looking at my pictures. She would ask me which I'd prefer to eat, raw oysters or smoked oysters, hen's eggs or duck's eggs, even though she had only one of them! I tried to read her mind. Apparently the latter was what she wanted to serve to me. Those were the days!
After I came back from the UK on the 15th of August, I was in charge of a 10- day course for my high school students called "Art in English".
This summer we picked an American artist, Edward Hopper, to study. In the text book there was a sentence referring to "idyllic pre-industry". I asked my student what is the opposite prefix of "pre". It is "post". Then I asked him what came after "the industrial age"? It might be "the information age". And then I asked him what might come next after "the information age"?
He couldn't answer but I think it might be "the investment age". I discovered that people in the UK are surviving by investing in their culture, as well as in shares. We have been following England up to the present time. There is still so much more we could learn. So I will revisit the UK again next summer.
Thank you,

This year's Nyupi, the Balinese New Year, was the 30th of March. They have many ritual ceremonies and festivals before Nyupi but on Nyupi day they do nothing. Every business activity is strictly prohibited, from boat trips to international flight services. There is no one on the street and they can't make fire in their house, even for cooking. There are no lights on the Balinese islands. Hotel guests can't go outside of the hotel either, and they has to draw the curtain at night to prevent the light from shining through the window at night. I went to mass Nyupi eve on Lembongun Island and It was stormy from then until I left for Japan. What a mysterious Island Bali is!
Thank you,
